Restoring some useful ringtone features on the newer f/w Krazr and Razr phones from VZW!!

Thanks to Listenman20, we now have figured out how to add in an mp3 filter for SENDING your mp3 files in the MMS system, as well as increasing the limited file size for transfers.

Thanks to a PM I just received from thilderbrand, I've been informed that this hack also allows to send ringtones via the MMS system as long as they are within network size limits. I wanted to wait for confirmation of this before stating it as fact (my phone runs the old firmware), but now that I've had it confirmed by someone it is safe to say that newer firmware Krazr and Razr v3m phones can now have some of their lesser known but useful ringtone abilities restored!

I would like to mention that this hack was originally performed on a Verizon Krazr (firmware version 01.19.09) This guide is only needed on the firmwares that have the ringtones stored in a separate location than the recorded audio. What needs to be done is the following:

• Access the file-system using QPST or BitPim(p2k commander apparently cannot find the necessary file)
• Navigate to /brew/mod/arcmedia
• Copy over the file named arcconfig.ini

The file should look something like this:

Make the following changes in the section under the [Audio Settings] heading. (listed by default setting first and followed by new setting):

• Folder=fs:/shared/audio --> Folder=fs:/shared/ringtone
  
• EMS Predefined Dir=fs:/motorola/ems --> EMS Predefined Dir=fs:/shared/ringtone
  
• MMS Predefined Dir=fs:/motorola/mms --> MMS Predefined Dir=fs:/shared/ringtone
  
• Ringtone Folder=fs:/ringers --> Ringtone Folder=fs:/shared/ringtone
  
• MySounds Folder=fs:/shared/audio --> MySounds Folder=fs:/shared/ringtone
  

Here is the list of changes from Listenman20:
this first set is made in the audio section

• MMS Filters=*.mid:audio/mid;*.qcp:audio/qcp;*.aac:audio/aac;*.m4a:video/mp4;*.amr:audio/amr --> MMS Filters=*.mid:audio/mid;*.qcp:audio/qcp;*.aac:audio/aac;*.m4a:video/mp4;*.amr:audio/amr;*.mp3:audio/mp3
  
• MySounds Filter=*.qcp:audio/qcp;*.mid:audio/mid;*.aac:audio/aac;*.m4a:video/mp4;*.dma:audio/dma;*.amr:audio/amr --> MySounds Filter=*.qcp:audio/qcp;*.mid:audio/mid;*.aac:audio/aac;*.m4a:video/mp4;*.dma:audio/dma;*.amr:audio/amr;*.mp3:audio/mp3

This next change can be made in each of the sections (pix, flix, audio, and main):

• mms file size limit=190 --> mms file size limit=350

After making the changes, save the file (to a different location so that you have a backup). Then, go back into QPST or BitPim and navigate back to /brew/mod/arcmedia and overwrite the file that is on the phone.

Go back to the root of the filesystem and delete the MyToneDB.db file for good measure and exit the application you are using. Reboot the phone and you should be all set.

Some notes. If you have any audio currently recorded and saved on the phones internal storage, you should transfer it to the card first before doing this - otherwise you will not be able to access them through the phone and will have to move the files via p2k commander. Also note that if you do this hack and currently have recorded media stored on the card, simply moving those files to the internal storage might not be enough since they were not yet indexed by the phone as a valid ringtone. The MyToneDB.db will only index files that are currently stored in the /motorola/shared/ringtone folder. Once the file has been indexed once it can be moved back and forth from the card to the phone and still be settable as a ringtone while it is stored on the phone.
