Selecting a ringtone -- mp3s play fine, but I can't choose them as ringtones

ccochran's picture

Hello!

First of all, I'd like to thank everybody for all the outstanding information here. I have learned a huge amount just by browsing the guides and forum posts. I appreciate it.

Here's my situation. I used P2K Commander to upload some mp3 ringtones to my RAZR V3m. They play great on my RAZR and sound incredible. The only hitch is that when I highlight a file, and then try to press the "options" soft-key, the phone doesn't give me the option of using the mp3 file as my ringtone. I can _play_ the file, but not save it as a ringtone.

One further twist: the first couple ringtones I uploaded with P2K Commander can be saved as ringtones...just not the ones I've uploaded since then.

Any ideas if what I might have done wrong?

Thanks in advance,
ccochran

After adding the newest ringtones did you delete the mytone.db file then disconecct the phone and cycle the power on it so it re-indexes the database file. If not try that and report back to us.

Only other thing I can think of off the top of my head is if you've updated the firmware or anything. It's been a while since I messed with a Razr but I know the newer firmwares changed the location of where ringtones need to be saved to.

mytone.db is gone from the A directory in the V3m

Pyde-Pypper,

Thanks for your response. I re-examined the A/motorola/share/audio folder in my V3m, and the mytone.db file is gone. I did delete when I first started adding MP3s and it seems as though it never regenerated itself. I just went through the re-start on the phone, and it still didn't recreate mytone.db. Hmmmmm.

fyi the mytone.db file is not in that folder. It is located in the root folder ( /a ) towards the bottom of the list.

That did the trick

Ah-HAH! Once I found and deleted MyToneDB.db and TmpTneDB.db, all the ringtones became available. That did the trick. Thanks for the reminder of where these files were located. Cheers! --ccochran

All good as that is what we are here for. Most times it is always something simple being overlooked. Congrats on getting it working tho. Peace.
