Try first to use the newer

Posted:

Try first to use the newer version of p2k commander and tell its preferences that you are using the phone on a specific port (you will see the port the phone is on if you look at the Motorola USB Modem properties in device manager). the application should then send the suspend command to the phone putting it into p2k mode. A new com port connection should automatically be created for the test command interface. the application uses that interface to send file management commands to the phone.

failing that:

get a terminal emulator program like the old Hyper Terminal on windows XP.
connect that application to the port your phone is on

enter the following command to send it to the phone and suspend the phone to p2k mode:

AT+MODE=8

that is actually the same code that the newer version of p2k commander sends to the phone.

What driver set have you

Posted:

What driver set have you installed for use with Vista-64? If you don't have the correct drivers installed on the comp first odds are no software will work right until you get the drivers setup correctly.

Curious when you plug your phone in with NO PROGRAMS running how is windows seeing it in device manager. If it is not listed as the Moto USB modem then don't even bother messing with MSU yet, get the drivers installed properly first then move on to MSU.

heres a pretty thorough

heres a pretty thorough guide for putting ringers on your phone:
http://aznuwee.googlepages.com/

you might be able to just use BitPim though, but I've not been able to get any positive feedback on using that programs sync feature on an Alltel phone. It seems that most people like to do it with the method mentioned in the guide I linked. However, I know that with MY phone, I am able to and prefer to use BitPim to sync my ringers since it does not require going through all the steps mentioned in that guide.

BitPim (as well as the other programs listed in that guide) are all available here at this site on the software page. newer versions do exist though and you can find those by doing a google search, they will 9 times out of ten be the first hit, so you can pretty much go to www.google.com - type in p2k commander - then press "im feeling lucky" (this button will always take you to the first result). OR, if your web browser (FF) is using google as the default search provider, you just type the name of the program in the address bar and press enter - that will do the same thing as doing an "I'm feeling lucky" search.
