Installed Bad Skin/theme...
I know this has been covered before, but... here goes: I have P2K commander, Radiocomm, (don't have a clue how to use it) PST, (which i cannot get to work because i can't figure out how to use the patch, at all) and Motokit (isn't recognizing my phone) downloaded and installed.... I'm wondering if what i need a master reset because as soon as i set my skin to the bad skin, the phone either turns black, or the moto wallpaper pops up. Now, I really hope that i didn't mess up my phone, but something tells me that it isn't that far gone.
I can make a phone call, receive a call, get the Easyedge menu and see my text msg inbox. I can't see the regular menu or the soft key bar at all. The main screen is the only thing that seems to be goofy.
Can someone please help this newbie??
Any help is appreciated.
Thank you

1. please dont post two
Posted: Sun, 10/19/2008 - 01:17 by spikejones1. please dont post two threads of the same issue. the other one has been deleted.
2. dont assume what needs to be done if you dont know for sure.
3. please provide more detail as to what firmware is on your phone, and what "skin" you used as well as how you applied it and where you got it
I believe, and Pyde should be able to confirm this, that there is a seem edit that can be done to switch the current skin that is being used so that you can have access to your phone again. Then you should be able to delete the other skin. Please be patient and wait for a reply as the people who help out here have jobs in real life.
yes there is in fact a seem
Posted: Sun, 10/19/2008 - 07:14 by pyde_pypperyes there is in fact a seem edit that can be done to switch skins back to one that works. I'll have to find my note on that if the OP understands fully how to do seem edits. If not the best bet will be to just use Radiocomm to do a Master Reset to the phone to get the stock skin back working by resetting the phone to stock. After which time you can use any program to go back into the filesystem to delete the bad skin off the phone
Currently using the New Moto Krave ZN4

I apologize for double posting
Posted: Wed, 10/22/2008 - 17:03 by KitsuneSunset1. The reason i posted twice was because it didn't appear that the post had even registered, as i didn't even have access to it until just now. I am sorry for that. It wasn't a matter of being impatient, but more a matter of confusion.
2. Okay.. will ask before assuming.
3. I apologize for being dumb about this question, but what do you mean about firmware? the skin i used was called Silent Extinction and i believe i acquired it from Mobile9.com.
try this...see if it

i apologize as well.
Posted: Wed, 10/22/2008 - 17:55 by spikejonesit seems that i myself jumped the gun and made myself look like a royal arse. I wasnt aware that there were issues with the forums/site in general until I was made aware by three different posts concerning the issue (actually one was an email). I started to suspect something might be up after it continued once I put up the first request, but I wasnt sure and was hoping that someone would at least make a thread stating that they could not find their posts/threads or did not have access to them. I just find it totally odd that both Pyde and I could see the threads and had access to them, but that others could not. I don't know if it had anything to do with our access levels or not. so, I do apologize for appearing like a butthole. in the future though if this kind of thing happens again, feel free to PM me or make a thread about it so that someone is aware of the difficulties.

Whew!! and my firmware info
Posted: Wed, 10/22/2008 - 18:50 by KitsuneSunsetMy firmware is: NCR_01.1E.00R
To Spike:
Whew! Apology definitely accepted. I was nearly afraid of coming back here.. but, i am overly sensitive anyway. I have a job too...
I did make a post in the FAQ, but didn't have access to it until tonight as well.
But anywho, i'm back. Hope the firmware info helps... i'm going to dink around on that phone once i figure all this modding business out. I will pm you in reference to this comment, because i don't want to get into trouble.
To Pyde:
I have no idea what seem editing is. It seems that only P2k commander recognizes my phone though... but it takes a long while for it to work. Also.. Bitpim, Motokit, and other programs i have on here don't recognize my phone at all. Radiocomm doesn't either.
when trying to use bitpim,
Posted: Wed, 10/22/2008 - 19:06 by spikejoneswhen trying to use bitpim, please describe the exact steps you are taking. please note all applications you may have running as well as what settings you use.
im not familiar with motokit myself, and I'm not sure if anyone else here uses it either. it may be that that program is GSM specific, but who knows.
as far as other programs you have used, which ones?
to become familiar with the seem edit process, as well as an overview of setting up BitPim, please feel free to browse through the Guides section. although there are not many guides (if any) for this stuff that are specific to your carrier, the basics will still apply if you would read the guides in the VZW section. Just so that you know, the program setup guides are located under "content management" and the seem editing guide is located under "programming". If you just substitute the specific info in the guide with the info that is posted by Pyde, you should have no problem what so ever with getting things setup.
I would also like to ask this as a general troubleshooting question:
do you have MPT (motorola phone tools) on your computer? if so, did you install it BEFORE or AFTER installing the drivers and other programs? (it needs to be installed first before everything else so that the drivers which come with it do not screw up your ability to use other programs)
If you are going to have MPT on your computer, the installation process should be as follows:
1. MPT
2. MSU (for suspending the phone to p2k mode)
3. Motodev Drivers
4. p2k commander, p2k seem editor, BitPim, QPST, Radiocom, RSD CDMA general (for backups before a flash), RSD Lite (for flashing), PST (for backups AND for flashing, as well as suspending to p2k mode)
5. connect the phone to the computer
Hmmm... I do have MPT on my
Posted: Wed, 10/22/2008 - 19:28 by KitsuneSunsetHmmm... I do have MPT on my computer, but i don't think i installed it first. I think, stupidly, the first thing i installed was P2K commander. Should i remove all of these things from my computer and start over? I will do that anyway, just to be on the safe side.
the ones in #4 are all
Posted: Wed, 10/22/2008 - 19:30 by listenman20the ones in #4 are all optional. no real need to get them all . once you decide what you want to do with your phone, you may pick and choose from those which you need.
yes
Posted: Wed, 10/22/2008 - 19:31 by listenman20that's not a bad idea. and just follow spike's mini guide there in that order.
