I have no customer_opening.gif to change for custom animations... where do I look?
I have Alaska Communications Systems for a service provider and they use no custom animation like Verizon does. Where should I look for a file to change? I browsed all the pictures through P2K Commander in all the folders and can't find anything that looks like the genaric Motorola start-up/shut down ones. Any ideas?

Posted: Fri, 09/05/2008 - 15:28 by spikejonesMy suggestion is the following... browse everywhere in p2k commander and look for anything that is a .gif extension and save all those files to your PC's hard drive (don't erase them off the phone period). Remember the locations of each file for future reference.
Once you are sure that you have looked in every possible location on the phone for any .gif files, open them up with your web browser to see the animations. If you are lucky, you will have pulled the actual files in your search.
Make note of that file name and its location. Now open the filesystem using BitPim (and only BitPim) and OVERWRITE the file. Do NOT delete the original file for any reason what so ever. We say to use BitPim since p2k commander can NOT overwrite files.

Posted: Fri, 09/05/2008 - 16:17 by timbo23Ok, after digging more, it turns out that the standard motorola animations were enabled. Found the seem edit to turn those off and turn new ones on. Only problem is that when I try to open the 0206 through 0209 seems to edit the location it looks for custom animations, the seem size is 0 bytes and I can't edit anything to set the custom location. Any workarounds for that?

Posted: Sat, 09/06/2008 - 08:04 by pyde_pypperIf you found the info in those seems it sounds like your carrier is GSM and not CDMA. that said everything talked about here at HTR will be different. The layout and such of GSM phones does not follow the CDMA phones what so ever.
However on most standard Moto UI phones the startup and shutdown animations are in these locations
/Motorola/Shared/Picture/customer_opening.gif
/Motorola/Shared/Picture/customer_closing.gif

Figured it out
Posted: Mon, 09/08/2008 - 09:53 by timbo23When I turned off the standard Moto ones & turned on customs, it started up/shut down without animation. Even though the files were not present to begin with, I added them with the standard names, rebooted and it worked!
