Free DUN on Motorola original firmware
It's possible to get free DUN on the Generic V3m firmware. To get it follow the same flash guide as the alltel flash guide. Before you flash away from the Verizon firmware extract the NVM_Factory file. Then using 010Editor edit the nvm_factory and find your phone number and change it so it reads XXX-XXX-XXXX@vzw3g.com. Enable the file transfer in Qpst and retransfer the Nvm_factory after you've used *228(warning using star 228 will cripple your EV).Then transfer the file, if EV is not crippled change the phone pref to CDMA not auto. Then if using Vista go to network and sharing center and create a network entitled VZW. The dial-up number being #777,the username your phone number @vzw3g.com, password being vzw. With the Motorola firmware the outer LCD can't be changed. Download the editor at http://mirror.switch.ch/ftp/pool/3/mirror/simtelnet/winnt/txtutl/

I have personal tested this and it works ,this post was made using the free dun.
Any problems please post

of course it should work
Posted: Tue, 08/26/2008 - 18:31 by spikejonesof course it should work that way if you want to dial into the verizon network. personally I think that it is still risky to do this even with EVDO disabled, but of course you could use a free dial service like nocharge and you shouldn't have to worry one bit about altering the nvm_factory file. some firmwares may not be able to gain access to downloading that file though if I recall correctly and users of that firmware had to go an alternate route to alter the dun tethering string.
ehh. whats up doc?
well the only problem is the

but what I am saying is that
Posted: Tue, 08/26/2008 - 19:17 by spikejonesbut what I am saying is that dialing to an alternate provider should not need to have anything in that file since it is not going to the #777 gateway. you are basically just placing a call to another phone and sending the username and password from your PC to that other phone number. But of course this is just speculation and I have no way of verifying it myself cause I don't feel like dumping out my nvm_factory file just to test it out. Dont think I really can to be honest. Not sure if bitpim will allow me access to overwrite it. I think that is something that needs to be done with QPST only.

FYI this hack will work on
Posted: Wed, 08/27/2008 - 05:22 by pyde_pypperFYI this hack will work on any Moto UI firmware. That isn't the issue the issue is the network itself more then anything, and the carrier you are with. Even for the folks who have the firmware that has the /nvm folder locked there is still away around it via seem edits if you know what you are doing.
Spike and fyi if you dial a different number like others suggest you don't get highspeed if memory serves me . It's just like and old school dialup modem, that is why people choose to use DUN and dial #777. Even on 1x mode you get speeds about about the rate of what an ISDN line would have.

That's for sure. The last
Posted: Thu, 08/28/2008 - 18:57 by teddyearpThat's for sure. The last couple of times I tried the #777 access, it just sat there for a long, long, long, long, long long time with no results. That's why I just lost patience and used my nocharge.com account. BUT although it connect right away, the connection speed REALLY stinks, so I am at a loss until I can spend enough time in a home area to try both again with my laptop.
Also a VZW V3m flashed to USCC NCR_01.1B.00R, then upgraded via MSU and now flashed to ViVo and active on the USCC network.

Posted: Fri, 08/29/2008 - 18:26 by teddyearpand the results were this. in the hex field are ..(my ESN) .. etc. on both seems. In my post at the other thread about DUN if you remember, my NAI from QPST was (my number)@vzw3g.com and my tethered NAI was my ESN.
