Take up a collection to become a BREW App developer?
Anyone else around here interested in starting a collection fund to raise money to become an 'official' BREW developer? The majority of tools and documents that are need to 'understand' how BREW works on our phones and the specific development tools are only available to authorized developers.
I'm a C++/Java/.NET guy, and would love to get my hands on all the other documents and tools besides just the SDK that is freely available (and skimmed down for the public).
It's $400 to get started for Versign certs, but the major drawback is finding a reasonable ARM compiler.
Moreover, if there are enough talented developers around here, why not start some sort of 'consortium' to develop both free and commercial apps for everyone? Give everyone some tools they really want/need for free, and build some better mouse traps to make a little beer money off of.
Hell, write a Killer App and make enough to buy your own beer company.
Anyone interested? Post or PM me.

Posted: Wed, 10/04/2006 - 08:22 by HeatmizuhBy all means, put up a page! Let's get this ball rolling.
After doing a good bit of research, etc, there are several FREE (as in beer) ARM compilers out there. I've been reading though the BREW forums and asking questions to the other established developers out there, and alot of them develop custom apps for like just 25+ handsets, so ---
With that $400 Verisign liscense we could start developing and deploying our own apps, without having to go through a traditional carrier, i.e., people wouldn't necessarily have to buy it via Verizon, T-Mobile, etc., but we could set up our own free or paid distribution site so that some of the cool toys and tools we create could be distributed.
I, of course, and willing to pitch in as well. Once one of us becomes a authorized developer, we can have access to all the goodies and toys that the big boys have.

this site has been search engine optimized and we get alot of hits from the general public, so we may need to go about finding developers from HoFo or something instead of relying on visitors to this forum.

Posted: Thu, 10/05/2006 - 10:16 by HeatmizuhWell, if you put up a page that kinda touts what we are trying to do, I'll do some recruiting. I have several friends who are also developers and would be happy to help out.
I'll also zip over to HoFo, Motomodders and MotoV3m and try to stir up some interest and forward the folks this way.
Thanks!

Posted: Sat, 10/07/2006 - 04:13 by PrinceEtriganI'm more of a mainframe/server guy dealing in 'dead' languages at this point but I've seen some Java, done some scripting (perl, PHP, JCL) and even dabbled in C programming back in the original 'cross platform application' days of the eighties when C was touted as the holy grail of programming. But I'd be willing to pitch in and see what I could come up with. And yes I'd be willing to pitch in some $$$ to be part of the 'consortium' and have access to the tools involved.

Posted: Tue, 10/10/2006 - 04:34 by styolhey i found the wiki on BREW and there more be some problems we can potentially face.
for instance, all programs have to be submitted for verification by someone at BREW i assume, then its allowed to work on phones.. or some crap, i dont totally understand it.. but from reading it seems like there may be some issues we could face
