Converting AVI to .3GP and Uploading videos to transflash

Okay - At the request of Styol, I'm posting how I got mine to work. (converting from AVI to 3GP)

You will need:
Latest CoDec pack for Windows XP
Xilisoft 3GP Video Converter 3 (3.10 is latest)
Target File for Conversion
A few minutes of time
A MicroSD TransFlash card
Some way of getting the converted video from your computer (C:\Temp is the default output folder for the .3gp files) to your MicroSD TransFlash card (MMS/BitPim{SLOWER} or Media Reader{FASTER})

Start off by making sure you have the latest set of CoDecs installed on your machine.

Launch Xilisoft 3GP Video Converter
Click the (+) Add button
Search your machine for the file you'd like to convert (In my case it was a 42m59s long Star Trek episode)
In the "Zoom" field, change the option to |Full (Keep aspect ratio)|
Click (~>) Encode
Wait.
Wait..
Wait...
(Grab a Snickers)
Wait...
Wait..
Wait.

DING!

Now time to put the completed file on your flash card.
Navigate Windows Explorer to C:\Temp
your file should look something like this: Star Trek TNG - 1x22 - Symbiosis.3gp
Now, if you have a media reader, just move the file to the ROOT of your MicroSD Flash Card (DO NOT PUT IT IN ANY FOLDERS!)
Pop the card in your phone, turn it on, go to Menu -> Get Pix & Flix -> My Flix. You should see the video there.

If you are using BitPim, I will have to assume that you know how to put files on your phone that way. My laptop came with a media reader built into the side, so I use that (It's MUCH Faster).

Click play, and grab some popcorn (make sure you don't touch the phone with buttery and salty fingers!)

Some converters will go the other way as well.. but QuickTime plays .3gp and .3g2 files.

tried doing that to my veriazon v3m on my t flash card and all i got on the phone was the audio but not the video. i also tried to upload it directly to the phone through p2k commander and got the same. only audio no video.. is it possible that the .3gp cant be read by the phone? the video i took with the phone and retrieved with p2k commander to the computer shows the extension as 3g2. should i try the vieo to the card and or phone in a 3g2 extension. thanks.

You can certainly try 3g2 if 3gp isn't working for you but the v3m can absolutely play 3gp as well. I only use 3gp on my v3m, except, of course, for the videos that I record using the phone.

Anyway, if you are only getting audio it has to be a codec problem.

3gp and 3g2 are video container formats and the audio codecs that work within each container are different.

What type of video are you trying to convert to 3gp?

Try downloading GSpot codec information appliance for free from http://www.headbands.com/gspot/

Open the source video and then the converted video with GSpot and let us know what codecs it shows for video and audio. It can be confusing but I might be able to help.

If you are ever not sure about where to put the video files the easiest thing to do is to take a short video with your phone and from within the phone's menu change the storage location to your card. Now when you use a card reader or mpt or whatever program you use to transfer vids from your computer you just transfer the vid to wherever the other vids are that you recorded from your phone.

I'm sick right now and not very clear headed, let me know if that makes sense or not :(

I was wondering if anyone knew how to put the video onto the sd card with MPT or BitPim on a V3m. When i tried it with MPT I got the message, "file transfer studio-- Request denied by phone(Forbidden(0x43))" The video is converted to .3pg.
