Tried to skin v3c / v3m and now my phone freezes?
Thanks..
Finally yesterday i had the time to play with the phone.
I try to upload some skins to my phone and now i cant change the display my menu ont come one and will freeze th screen for fee sec.
i try to go back in p2kcommander and delete, rename and even put the defoult skin to the directory i made, nothing works, i think if cuked up and dont know how to go back to and restore to factory.
can some one please help me!

Posted: Tue, 08/29/2006 - 05:44 by n00bI see, in the bitpim i tried couple of times to get it connect but i couldnt do it. every times i check in settings it says =====INOPERABLE PORTS===== Motorola USB modem, i give up last night but i will continue to try tonight.
pyde_pypper yes i see the tropical, blue skins and 3 other skins, they are the same one i uploaded.

It can be a but pain sometimes, FYI I've had to unplug it up to like 4 or 5 times to get it to see it. Sooner or later it will come up in the operable list then you should be good to go. What version of BitPim are you using? Once you get it runing then you should have no trouble getting to the /skin folder and just delete the ones you want to get rid of. For whatever reason sometime P2Kcommander just does not pull up all the files, never understood why but what can I say.

Not trying to hijack this thread, but would appreciate knowing what options do exist for the v3m?
Is the v3m simply VZW's latest attempt to prevent modding of the phone?
Did try to seem edit the banner on the 3m and it completely borked its ability to get on the network.

Posted: Tue, 08/29/2006 - 10:54 by pyde_pypperYou would be correct you can not flash your v3m, unless you're willing to give any support up and flash it to the Alltel, which would more or less turn you v3m into a v3c. Bad plan in my opinion becasue there is no going back.
Secondly what do you mean by " what options exist for the v3m" plz be a little more specific in what you're looking for or trying to do.
Lastly on your seem edit issue I'm guessing you tried to change the " Verizon Wireless " to something else or just remove it. Problem could be that one of the characters prior to the V or after the last S got changed. If so that will hose the phone. Do you have it up and running again? If not the only thing I would suggest is getting a copy of the 296a seem file you need from someone with a v3m and just overwrtie the file to your phone and see if it fixes it or go back in and change back to the way it was before you made the changes. I may be able to grab the seem file off my sons phone tonight, but I'm not sure if he is stopping by or not. Let me know and I'll see what I can do on getting it over to you.

Yes was able to restore the phone from the backup seem file.
You answered the question about "what options exist". Would agree that turning a 3m into a 3c doesn't make much sense.
So is the 3m a permanently crippled phone? Meaning such things as theme changes?

Posted: Tue, 08/29/2006 - 11:28 by styolif you're asking what other options you have for fixing your phone after you tried to skin it with a V3 skin, then i dont think there really are any other options other then removing the themes you uploaded and just making sure that the filesystem related to the themes are exactly as they were before.
the v3m is not verizon's latest attempt at trying to prevent modding. the issue is that the v3m is verzion's latest and greatest firmware that doesnt have any problems which means they havnt released a firmware update for it yet.
people were only capable of performing a flash on the v3c because verizon released 2 new firmware updates during the duration of the v3c's life due to the problems it was having such as a slow User Interface. this new firmware update got leaked to "the people" and they were able to use it to basically re-install their phone.
v3m currently has no updates from verizon, and therefore there is no flash available for re-installing the v3m's firmware.

Posted: Tue, 08/29/2006 - 12:16 by pyde_pypperI wouldn't go as far to say it is permanently crippled, but at the current status yes it kinda is to a degree, specifically in reference to skins/theme. I'm sure at some point Alltel or USCC will get the v3m and then I wouldn't be suprised if a flash file pops up on the web somewhere. I know there are people working on getting a copy ( myself included), but keep in mind even if a VZW flash file shows up you still won't be able to skin because of the way VZW sets up the UI, I'm trying to get a Moto UI v3m flash file myself but it's not easy to come by tho, I know a few people who work in the Moto cell dept, but as they put it they could get fired if they get caught and it is pretty well guarded to even make a copy of it. The only way to skin a V3c from VZW is to flash it to the Alltel firmware that is out on the web, which is what I have done to my VZW v3c, and it's great, I've got the Moto UI on it just like the VZW E815 came with, or pay retail for an Alltel v3c and get it activated on VZW.

Posted: Tue, 08/29/2006 - 12:22 by pyde_pypperOh yea as for the theme issue Styol is right but you also would have to do what I posted on page one, because odds are you can't get to the master reset on the phone if you tried to upload a skin/theme. Even if you get the bad one off the phone it stillmay not work correctly,or it may it depends on what actually happened when you put the skin/theme on. I've read a few people that said just by deleteing it that it fixed the issue, and others have had to be able to do the master reset.

I saw that there is a way to reset my phone using software... HOW????? Someone please HELP ME... I've read all the posts here and the ones referenced and it says something about Motokit but I can not find the specific steps or softare anywhere... can someone please help... I'm about to take my phone to Verizon and pray they don;t charge me the $300 for a new phone...
