EVDO DUN QUESTION

fog37766's picture

Just how "monitored" is the evdo network?

Reason im asking is ive been using evdo dun on my v3m prepaid for over 6 months and i use the connection for everything. Ive downloaded mp3's movies and even networked my xbox 360 and played on xbox live with it. I havent recived any calls/letters from verizon warning me about my useage and it still works as strong as day one. Is it possible that it is not as monitored as people on this site thinks it is? if it is monitored shouldnt verizon have already caught onto it?

It is in fact monitored no

It is in fact monitored no questions ask, I've had friends who worked for VZW which is how I know. However prepaid stuff is a whole different ball of wax and can not be compared to post paid accounts either. That said I've never had prepaid so I don't have any info on that or why it is not an issue. However it's always been known they people don't seem to have an issue with using it on prepaid.

Just for kicks, I got my DUN

Just for kicks, I got my DUN to work today. But when I tried to connect without disabling EVDO, I got kicked off. But I'm on post paid. I'll have to wait until I get the other razr I just won off eBay to try out this and a bunch of other stuff.

Yo if you have a chance and would be willing to do a test would be great on the post paid phone to see if this works. What you'd need to do is pull the 0b09 seem, and the 0b89 seem. My guess is you see on the text side yourcell#@dun.vzw3g.com Now if that is the case save a copy of each seem just so you have it. Then change the @dun.vzw3g.com on the text side to @vzw3g.com They way I'd do it is just get you cursor on the D in the dun and just type vzw3g.com which obviously will leave extra letter after the .com and those need to be change to do so you'd need to go back to the Hex side and change all the offsets to null values ( ie 00 ) for those last few spot seeing as we are shortening the info by 4 characters. Do this to each seem and then save it to the phone. Power cycle the phone and then test post DUN with EV on and see what you get.

and if that method no

and if that method no workie... try this one:
http://mark.cdmaforums.com/NoPapDun.htm

edit:
i see that you did actually post in the FAQ about the alternate method used for the firmwares that cant use that method though.

note/theory:
If I am not mistaken though, QPST pulls the tethered NAI string from this file, and the seems are actually just the same thing as this file just a different method of pulling the info from the phone on firmwares that cant access the nvm_factory file. Also, some people may have difficulty in figuring out how to use QPST. So really, any three of those methods should accomplish the same thing.

Hmm, this has me thinkin'

Hmm, this has me thinkin' pyde. Looks like you may be on to something. Your method may be a tiny bit easier than the 'NoPapDun' method if I gather the gist of what you're posting here. Now as I posted in pulling this seem I've got ..ESN..... etc.
Now pulling this seem requires these settings: bytes 7a, seem 0b09, record 0001.

So if this may be the new and improved method of editing this setting, how does one proceed now?

Also, glad to see fog has posted again, I'm curious to see what he posted in the other thread.

Teddy the setting you

Posted:

Teddy the setting you mentioned for the seem will work fine. Here is a link to an edited 0b09 seem file for you to either use or use for reference to edit your own. My suggestion would be to use mine tho seeing as your says ESN and everything would need to be changed including stuff on the Hex side also which could be a real pain in the ars.

What I would do if you really want to test this is make a backup of you current 0b09 seem, and also your QPST service programming just to be safe. Then load the 0b09 seem from your phone, to then obviously load my file from where ever you saved it. In pace of the cell number I entered 5555555555, once you load the load from file click on the first 5 on the text side and change it to your number so it looks like 111111111@vzw3g.com and leave everything else the way it is. Low and behold save to phone and then cycle the power and see what's up.

Just to be clear Fog. You are saying that by doing/using the seem edit I posted it now allows you to connect your post paid VZW Razr using DUN with EV and does not disconnect. If so awesome we have an easy fix then for folks who want to use or press there luck with EV DUN on post paid.
