Droid discussions~Part III
Yes, maybe I'm a wienie. But I have my setting to 70 posts/page and the when I click on 'new' if the thread is over that 'one' page, it's a pain for me to go to the newest post.
So, I figured I'd start (another) new thread to continue the previous two (actually three) threads about the Motorola 'droid' phone ; it's hacking and roms.
Here's the first three:

http://hacktherazr.com/forum/has-rom-war-ceased
http://www.hacktherazr.com/forum/droid-rom-etc-discussionscontinued
http://hacktherazr.com/forum/droid-rom-etc-discussionscontinued2
OK, I can't count, but anyways, I reckon y'all get the point I hope.
Happy New Year!

FYI to everyone you should seriously consider device upgrades if you have a NE2 up and ready for use. Not sure if anyone has heard but VZW is changing policy on 1/16/2011 and the NE2 upgrades are going away as well as annual upgrades. After 1/16 you will only be able ot upgrade at promotional pricing every 2 yrs or 20months into a 2yr contract. If you want sooner you'll have to pay full retail unless when you resign you go with a 1yr contract and pay a little bit more for the device up front so you can upgrade again within 10 months on your 1 yr contract.
Also got wind that Honeycomb has a spec requirement of needing a dual core chip to even be able to use it. So it looks like Gingerbread is going to be the end of the road for all current devices out on the market atm.

So what do you all think about the bionic? I'm liking what I see but I am disappointed that there was a misprint about the RAM. Was hoping it would be 1GB like on the Atrix. Have to say that having 1GB of RAM would be nice.
The Xoom looks pretty neat also. Honeycomb really does go along way to making android more tablet oriented. Still am not interested though in getting one. Saw the honeycomb teaser (I guess) and it made it look like honeycomb is tablet specific or designed with tablets in mind. Not sure how this is going to translate to the handsets.

Posted: Thu, 01/06/2011 - 06:07 by pyde_pypperAgreed the whole NE2 policy change sux ass. However if you think that is bad just give it some time and wait until they announce or discuss the new security measures going to be put in place on ALL devices from ALL mfgs. So for all these whiners complaining about the locked bootloader on the Motos they have not seen shit yet. As for Honeycomb it is designed with headsets and Tablets in mind. Gingerbread is more specific to Tablets.
As for the XOOM I agree looks really sweet and all but I have no use or need. Personally yo this day I don't get the point of Tablets. IMO they are oversized cellphones that are kinda useless. I'll stick with my smartphone and a Laptop for my computing needs and say piss on the Tablets as I never plan to buy one. On the Bionic looks really nice also and I like a few of the changes they made to it from the last one I saw. On thing I don't like is how they moved the dam usb & hdmi plug again toward the top of the device. it is an awkward position to have them IMO. Specially when you need to charge in the car and talk on the dam thing with the wire hanging right out the side of the device where you need to hold the phone.

Posted: Thu, 01/06/2011 - 07:03 by SailorcancerI know. I've been hearing people whine about the blocked moto bootloaders and praising all the other manufactures. Which confuses the hell out of me because if I remember correctly the G2 from HTC will automatically un root you upon restart. The only devices I've heard that were easy to get to were the Galaxy S phones.
I guess it depends on the use. I know my older brother said over at his work they're ditching the phones and moving over to tablets with the front facing cameras to communicate. For what I do I don't see the point in wasting the extra money on a larger screen. Give me something that does more then what my phone already does.
I find the Bionic to be extremely temping lol. NOW if only vzw would announce some good news about the 4G data plans for phones lol.

as for your comment on the HTC G2 you are correct. And if you think that is bad this new stuff the are working on will put that to shame. And word is traveling this will start popping up on ALL the carriers on all devices as they are all working together to put the hacking to an end. So all these whiners can really start whining if they think and HTC or Sammy will be easier to hack, because the fact is they won't be and will almost be next to impossible to hack if they get this done and functioning right. I can't say much at this point but if and when all is said and done this whole idea of Android being open source and allowing us to do what we want could & may come to an end and none of the devices will get hacked like we are use to. and with that said if you choose to you'll be extremely bent when the device no longer functions at all what so ever. May turn on and function but it will not work on the network anymore so it is useless.
Keep in mind from what I'm told this all stems from people who are trying to hack devices and bricking them to then return them for warranty claims to be replaced. And it is costing the MFGS a shit ton of money so they are looking and found a way to possiblly stop it for good.
BTW I also found out VZW now has a way to track and tell if a device is rooted and running on there network. And as soon as that MEID is logged as being rooted you will not be allowed to get a warranty replacement because you voided the warranty.

Posted: Thu, 01/06/2011 - 15:20 by SailorcancerWell, I guess I can see it from there point. It sucks that a bunch of people had to go and ruin it all. Though I thought it was pretty hard to brick an android phone. Overall it sucks. Makes rooting and custom ROM installs almost not worth trying.
TBH, I'm not surprised by what's going on. I think most people knew it was only a matter of time before Android lost its openness here. You just can't have the word open next to any of the major carriers here.
So thoughts on the vzw conference? I'm disappointed that they didn't announce pricing. Though I am somewhat happy at one of the questions asked. Someone asked about pricing and they said it would be like it is now. So here's hoping for the best.
I'm hoping not much changes, just changed the family plan over to that unlimited texting and data promotion vzw was offering. For like $20 more all our lines got unlimited data and texting.
As for the phones I'm kind of disappointed. I was expecting more T2. Out of all of them I guess I'm most interested in the 1. Droid Bionic 2. LG Revolution 3. Samsung LTE 4G (gotta love the name) and 4th HTC Thunderbolt. IMO I see nothing to the thunderbolt or even LTE 4G. They seem to be like their other vzw counterparts just with a few tweaks here and there.
