CDMA V3m flash from Sprint to Metro - Fail.
Well I bought a cdma sprint v3m for 40 bucks to flash to metro. Got RSD Lite v4.3 and grabbed the MPC_V3M_01.1A.00R_PRIkk42423_MONSTER_01 metro mp, and started up the flash. Flash stopped about half way through reporting that RAM couldnt be accessed of something. After opening it up, I found that I had forgotten to remove the sd card. I tried the flash again, with fingers crossed, and still failed, this time taking forever to proceed beyond switching to flash mode, then fail at interface handle. The phone can get past the hellomoto screen to a white/black background with icon bar at the top.
I think I bricked it, and posted a thread on a different website's forums but they havent replied and they deal with all moto phones not just razr, so i think this post is more suited to this website, which btw I like more
Is there any way for me to fix what I have done, and either get to metro or back to sprint? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated since I have had zero feedback from anywhere else on the internet!
Thanks,
WVeX

First thing I'd try is getting the Sprint flash back on it...
Posted: Sun, 12/06/2009 - 16:29 by pyde_pypperFirst thing I'd try is getting the Sprint flash back on it so it fully boots up. After that then proceed forward to MetorPCS again. Here is a link to a bunch of different flash files. just make sure you are looking at the right model as many are listed. if memory serves me the v3m is the second grouping on the list.

Ok

I just tried twice to flash back to Sprint, and RSD Lite v4.3 returned this error:
Failed flashing process. Unable to retrieve interface handle. (0x7027); phone connected.
The error appears after attempting to switch into flash mode, which, due to the error, seems to be unsuccessful. This happened starting the SECOND time that I tried flashing, which was attempting to flash to metro. From then on, the same error has been returned no matter what. Is there anything else I can try?
one try using an older version of RSD Lite like version...
Posted: Sun, 12/06/2009 - 18:34 by pyde_pypperone try using an older version of RSD Lite like version 3.9, 4.1, or 4.2
the other thing I would do is force the phone into bootloader mode hooking it up to your comp to try flashing it. To do so hold the * and # buttons down at the same time, while holding them down then power the phone on which should force the device to bootloader ( IE flash mode)

Flash back to Sprint worked!
Posted: Sun, 12/06/2009 - 21:34 by wvexWow thank you!
After reading your instructions, I downloaded RSD 3.9 and set my phone to bootmode, then connected it and flashed it with the sprint files, and the flash back to sprint worked! I was completely sure I had just created a $45 paper weight but you are a life saver man! I'm gunna go ahead with the flash to metro again since some variables like the RSD version have changed, and will report back with what happens.
EDIT:
Tried the flash to metro from the newly loaded sprint, and it got 76% done with code 2 before the following happened:
Heard phone restart, froze on hellomoto screen, after a few minutes the RSD reported:
Failed flashing process.Phone[0000]:error flashing subscriber unit. bla bla bla. phone disconnected.
How would I go about things from here? I can successfully flash back to sprint, but not to metro.
Thanks for gettin me this far btw!

Well seeing as I never really messed with a sprint v3m it...
Posted: Mon, 12/07/2009 - 09:28 by pyde_pypperWell seeing as I never really messed with a sprint v3m it is hard to say in all honesty. However knowing what I do know about the different Razr's and so forth couple of things.
Firs thing I'd try with it in the current state ( ie partial MetroPCS flashed) is try reflashing it but use the USCC upgrade flash to see if it goes. If it fully takes then try reflashing it with the MetroPCS Monster files.
If that does not work out I'd flash it back to Sprint again so you know it at least fully boots up and you are back to square one. After that I'd flash it with the GENERIC - DST_V3M_01.1E.00R file on the page link I posted below to see if it finishes. If it does then follow up with flashing it with the MetroPCS file. You could also try the other Generic file on that page, and if you notice it is the same number as the MetroPCS file.

Another error...
Posted: Mon, 12/07/2009 - 14:45 by wvexI tried what you suggested, and the flash from partial metro to USCC upgrade didnt work. I then tried back to sprint, and that didnt work either, with both flashes cutting out at about 3/4 through flashing code group 2, with the phone rebooting and error reporting failed flashing process due to inability to flash subscriber unit. Every flash results in freezing up on the hellomoto screen after phone reboot.
I also tried both generic dst files and neither of those finished, reporting same error.
I'm pretty confused over this whole thing, since now I cant even get the same exact sprint flash files to work...
Are you trying the flashes with the phone in bootloader...
Posted: Tue, 12/08/2009 - 16:45 by teddyearpAre you trying the flashes with the phone in bootloader mode each time? Sometimes that, as you found, may be the trick to get it to take.
good luck

Worked!
Posted: Fri, 12/11/2009 - 17:16 by wvexIt has been some time since I have been on here, since I got it to work. I found my answer on another website, and it still worked even though I dont have verizon. Just follow the steps exactly if you are having this problem. I used the alltel monster as a "middle-man" so to speak, so i could from sprint to metro, using the steps in scenario 2.
Thanks you guys for helping me work this out!

*THIS MAY WORK FOR THE LATEST VERIZON F/W TO AS IT HAS SIMILAR FLASHING PROBLEMS WITH THEIR NEWEST F/W*
I wanted to write up this quick little guide for anyone else who flashes to/from the Sprint V3m monster and may want to leave it again OR for anyone who tried flashing FROM Sprint's latest f/w which is 24.00.48.03P.
Sprint seems to have made it very tricky to flash if you are running this F/W version. The culprit appears to be a new bootloader version which makes just one block of memory unreadable causing all flash's to fail.
*SCENARIO ONE*
Restoring sprints f/w after flashing out of it only to find failure.
Requirements:
Any other monster pack. ( I used Alltel with all my tests but I see no reason Vivo or the generic motorola monster pack would not do the same thing )
Sprint V3m Monsterpack
Procedure:
So you have flashed from sprint and now all flashs fail including sprints.. and you want to go back to sprint and just never mess with your phone again? Well here is how stated very simply.
Start the flash with your preferred flashing program, I used RSD Lite. The flash you are performing is a Alltel flash. Let the ramloader load and wait until it says FLASHING CODE GROUP 2 x% when it is at 1% unplug your phone, don't worry it will be fine. Next simply start a new flash using the Sprint F/W and viola the Sprint flash will work and your phone will reboot into the sprint software.
The MSL for the Sprint V3m monster pack is 000000. Use ##DATA# to set up power vision settings if you are a sprint customer and have those features and use ##000000# to set up your phone number and get your phone back on the network. All done! You have now restored your sprint f/w even though sprint tried to brick your phone Very Happy .
*SCENARIO TWO*
You want to LEAVE the sprint f/w all together and use Alltel, Vivo, Metro PCS, etc.
Requirements are simple
The sprint f/w monster, alltel monster, and the monster of your choice
Procedure
This one was a bit tricky and took me all of the last two to three hours to figure out but I am back to Alltel after having think I may be stuck on the sprint f/w forever or worst with a bricked phone.
OK bare with me. Its basically procedure one with a extra step. Start the flash to alltel, unplug it at 1%, restart the flash using the sprint f/w BUT unplug this at 1% to. Now start another flash to the f/w of your choosing. IT WILL FAIL. Don't be discouraged. Reboot the phone and you will see that the icons up top from your firmware choice are now in place. Alltel showed the antenna, location, sound and battery. Now flash it one more time to the alltel firmware or to the firmware of your choosing and viola it worked! You are now out of the sprint f/w and can flash freely between Vivo, Alltel, Generic, FLASH AWAY! Follow the many many Alltel flash guides out there including the ones on this site to set your phone up. Basically its a #0SETUP*, entering your numbers, uploading a sprint/verizon PRL, and restoring your phonebook.
I hope this helps anyone that thinks they are stuck on the sprint f/w.
Cheers and happy flashing!
Derek
