I can't get bitpim to recognize my v3m. I downloaded the recommended drivers the computer finds the phone and says it is working properly but yet bitpim can't I've tried all ports but still no luck
You need to manually select the phone type as v3cm, and you also need to manually set the com port.
To know which comp port plug the phone in with no programs running, then head to device manager in Windows and look under modems, and check the properties of the Moto USB modem. Once you know which port windows installed it on then head into BitPim and manually set it like I mentioned above.

pyde is right. even when you do the test after manually configuring the connection, it will say that it failed to detect the phone. This is normal. The quickest way to make sure that the phone is indeed connected (after setting the manual connection) is to do the following:
go to view -> filesystem (this will place the filesystem tree item in the left pane)
click on the new filesystem icon which will bring up a folder labeled / in the right pane
double click on that folder and it should bring up the rest of the folders located at the root (/) of the filesystem.
If you can see that, it means that the phone is properly connected.
Note that on the newer versions of BitPim that they have added a v3m module, this is not the one that you want if you have an older firmware in which the ringtones are stored at /motorola/shared/audio.
just go into setting in BitPim and type COM13 as the port and you should be good to go. FYI tho just make sure you also uncheck the " detect phone" box before exiting out of the settings screen

Try clicking the browse button next to where you entered the Com info. Look and see if the Moto USB modem ( or com13) is listed under inoperable. If it is leave that screen open and unplug your phone, then click refresh. After which time plug the phone back in with that screen still open and wait until you hear the USB chime. Then click refresh again. It now should be under operable, if it is select it, and then okay your way back out. If it comes up as inoperable again just do the same process I stated. FYI I have had to do it a couple of time in the past so it's nothing abnormal in all honesty.
