Get FREE WAP

What do you mean WAP isn't FREE?! Well.. usually in order to access the WAP or Wireless Web you need to call Verizon's customer service and pay a monthly fee for WAP access. If you have a messaging package though, often times wireless WAP is included. However, regardless, you will still be using minutes -- whether or not you use this FREE WAP modification or not.

What this modification does is changes the proxy that you use to actually access the WAP. When you use Verizon's proxy, which is default, you get charged for minutes usage AND for actual transfer of data (uploading/downloading). So in essence, by changing the proxy, you avoid paying the extra fee's for anything and everything you see on the WAP.

Also, it has been reported that using this FREE WAP modification also means that you -dont- have to sign up for access to the wireless web... thats right... that means that is only uses minutes... no monthly fee, no data charges, just minutes. And yes, that means that FREE nights and weekends means absolutely FREE WAP.

HOWEVER, around November 2007, Verizon Wireless changed their plan structure to offer their new Nationwide plans. What this changed was they now DO charge for data usage on these new plans. The charge is $1.99 for every megabyte sent and received. This means if you signed up with Verizon Wireless since November 2007, or have had your plan 'upgraded' to a Nationwide plan, you will get charged for data usage. It is rumored that you can get around this by signing up for the $15/mo VCast pak, but I'm not positive.

SO, what this means is that everywhere in this guide that mentions free and only uses minutes applies to you ONLY if you are still on one of Verizon Wireless's America's Choice plans. We are sorry for any inconvenience or misunderstanding.

How to get FREE WAP, the easy way

*** REQUIRED FOR NEW RAZRS FROM VERIZON
Razrs with the latest firmware from Verizon, or rather recently purchased Razrs, came with a new firmware that disable the WEB SESSION menu that is REQUIRED to use this guide. You MUST perform this seem edit in order to show the web session that is needed to get this hack to work.

REQUIRED SEEM EDIT - Enable websessions= seem 2742, record 1, bytes 0000, offset 0018 bit 5

1. Open your phone. Press #0SETUP* or #073887* -- QUICKLY -- If you pause while typing #0SETUP* in, it may not work. Also note that thats a ZERO [0] not an OH [O]

2. "Enter Security Code:" should be on the screen - type 000000 which is SIX [6] ZERO's [000000] and then Press the right soft-key which is the top-right button, closest to the screen.

3. Web sessions should be the first item in the list, and should be highlighted. Press the right soft-key for Select

4. Scroll down to highlight [New Entry] and then press Select

5. Here we will setup the new web session to in essence give us FREE WAP. Please note that all the entries you will be making can be done by first highlighting the field you want to change, and then simply begin typing your entry. You do not have to press anything to begin editing, but if you choose to, you can press the center main menu button.

6. You must have previously registered at our Forum to have your own WAP account.

*NEW* -> Our WWW Wizard WAP Master has recently (Dec 2008) changed the way that our WAP server gets updated and therefore to complete this process, after signing up for your account here at HackTheRazr (As in step six above), you must FIRST enable WAP from within your account settings. To do so, go to the "My Account" link on the right hand menu, Then, on the next page, right under where it will say "User Profile", click the "Edit" button. Then on that next page, under where your user name is displayed, click on the "WAP" link. On this page, check the "WAP access enable" check box, scroll down just a bit and hit the "Submit" button. Now the rest of this guide should work just fine for you.

7. Now click Done and you're almost there!

8. Highlight your new websession and then press the center main menu button.
You should now find yourself happily connecting to the official HTR FREE WAP proxy, with your very own WAP account. If you have any problems, please continue reading.

Also note that if you want to setup multiple proxies and easily switch to a different web session, then press ##BROWSER (##2769737) to go directly to the web session menu. You cannot alter the username/password/port through this method.



TROUBLESHOOTING

For Wireless Internet Services, please dial *611.
We are unsure why this happens, but it does sometimes, and the usual easy fix for it is to go back into the Web Sessions menu, select, activate, and actually use the REAL verizon wap proxy. Verify that you are able to connect with that. Then, open up Web Sessions and switch back to the HTR FREE WAP proxy, and it should work.

"Network Connection Lost" message
The server does restart as needed so that we can prevent the server from crashing and staying offline for extend periods of time. If you are actively browsing the WAP while our server restarts, you will get a "Network connection lost" message for about 10-15 seconds and then everything will go back to normal and you can continue right where you left off.

"Authentication failed"
Make sure that when you were entering your forum password into the websession that the first letter was NOT capital. Sometimes the razr, by default, makes the first letter of inputed passwords Capital. One method is inputing the same Lletter twice and then going back and deleting that letter.

Also, sometimes if your password is too long or has funky characters in it, it might cause you to get locked out of the system. Simply try and change your password to something simpler and/or shorter just to test and see if that is the issue.
