you should then read the rest of the guides that tell you how to do some hacking/content management. as of now, the only section that is worthy of mention is the Verizon section. It would be nice to have others help to build out the other sections. If you want to contribute some guides to the Alltel or other sections, contact myself or styol with a good guide written up and we will see about getting it posted.

A:There are a couple ways to go about doing this actually!

Method number one:

What is needed:

  • drivers installed properly
  • your favorite filesystem explorer (can be p2k commander with MSU or PST running in the background OR you can use QPST EFS Explorer.)
  • images (duh!)

What you do:

  1. connect the phone to your filesystem browser
  2. browse to a/motorola/shared/picture (if they are stored internally) or if they are on the transflash card, browse to a/mmc (QPST and BitPim only)
  3. copy the files over to the PC using the utility provided with the application of your choice.
  4. you may delete the files from the phone if you wish (as long as they are not locked, and that is another story)
  5. the same thing can be done in reverse

Method 2: (faster for mass transfers)

What is needed:

  • micro SD card
  • micro SD to SD adapter
  • SD card reader

What you do:

  1. transfer the images to the card from the phones menu
  2. turn the phone off, take out the battery, and then the card
  3. place the card into the SD adapter, place the SD adapter into the card reader
  4. when windows asks what you want to do - choose to view the folder contents.
  5. the photos/images will be on the root of the card and you can drag them to desktop or wherever else you want them
  6. use safely remove hardware to unmount the card
  7. replace the card into the phone and turn it back on
  8. this same method can be done in reverse

Want to set the default storage location of photos to be on the card?

On a Verizon firmware phone do the following:
  1. press the camera button
  2. go to options
  3. go to "Switch Storage Device"

Info below is taken from a verizon phone with older firmware

This method works for transferring audio for the media player (wma format) as well as videos (3gp and mp4 format). For audio, the files are stored on the transflash card in the "my music" folder. For videos, they are stored internally at a/motorola/shared/video, and on the transflash card they will go in the same area as the photos do (ie. the root of the card - no folders).

This last bit was edited to correct the location of the audio, i accidentally placed an incorrect internal storage location in my guide. while it may have been correct for some carriers' firmware, it was not correct for verizon firmware. as such i felt it best to leave that out.

Enjoy

How do you get the file system to appear when connecting V3m to BitPim?

I have followed all of the instructions for BitPim, but I do not see "file system" on the menu to the left. Is there anyone that can help me determine what I did wrong?

Enabling the filesystem view is as simple as going to the view menu and clicking on filesystem.

View -> Filesystem

Thanks for the response. Any update past 4.5 will not allow MPT to recognize the RAZR. Reinstalled & skipped the update! Works just fine now!

P2k Commander Freezes

I know this site is for Razrs..but I am modding a Rizr and I connect the phone and open rsd(software used like pst for krzrs) and pst..they both said the phone was connected but when I go into p2k and select mobile phone from the drop down window it freezes and I have to force close it..I don't know if anyone has had this problem before or could help..thanks!

Also, note that older versions of P2K Commander (such as the version we have available for download from this site) do not like being switched away from. By switched away from, i mean simply, try and leave the window focus on P2K Commander - as in don't multitask and switch around to programs - don't alt tab to another program - just simply leave the P2K commander window open as the window in focus. For some reason sometimes, if you switch away to another program WHILE P2K commander is workin on something, it may freeze. When you are not actively doing anything on P2K Commander (like loading the phones filesystem) it is fine to switch around to different programs -- just when its actively trying to do something with your phone, sit there and watch p2k commander only

P2K commander is known to freeze a lot for various reasons. Mostly because there are too many processes running in windows already. From the sounds of what you are saying though, it sounds as if you have two different phone suspending softwares running at the same time and may be the cause of the hangup with p2k commander. You should only use one or the other, not both. Try it again with only one of them running. Make sure that the program you choose has the phone properly suspended, and then open p2k commander. If you are still having hangups, you may want to check out the latest version of p2k commander here: http://handheld.softpedia.com/get/Developer-Tools/File-Manager/P2kComman... . If you still have no luck, ask around in the forums as there is likely more chance of getting good feedback there.

What all programs do I need to do the hack, and which would be the easiest to use.

I know quite a bit about computers, But I am still learning how to crack and hack. I have bitpim already and need to know what else I need.

Although there are alot of programs available that may be used for certain aspects, these programs are likely what you will need for a BREW based Razr such as the V3M from Verizon Wireless. These programs may not apply to other phones and carriers.

  • MSU
  • P2K seem editor
  • P2K commander
  • QPST

For doing seem edits you will need the first two that I listed. (MSU runs in the background)
For transferring theme files you will need p2k commander (MSU runs in the background)
For messing around in the nvm directory you will need QPST

Each program has a bit of functionality that the next one does not have. QPST and BitPim have the fullest access to all the files on the phone, however they have limitations in what they can write to the phone due to the Brew protection (on the Brew based firmwares)

P2K commander (while it locks up a lot during mass transfers) is not limited by the Brew Restrictions.

Hope that answers the question sufficiently.

Where can I find some of these programs and files?

This directory doesn't have everything, just most of the same things you'll find here and a bit more. You may see some people refer to it as the "Mickey Mouse" directory and in my signature in the forums there is a link to it as well.

I have here the drivers, all the programs, and even some of the firmware flash files here in case you have troubles either finding them elsewhere or getting them from rapidshare.com.

Now mind you, it's just a directory listing without any descriptions of what the file is, but if you know what you're looking for, there it is. I have this on my server for your convenience so you don't have to click any other links, nor wait for rapidshare to let you download it/them.

good luck.

Why isn't P2K Commander / P2K Seem connecting to my phone or computer?

Check the following:

  1. Do you have the Motorola USB device drivers installed?
  2. Can you go to device manager with the phone plugged in and see the phone listed as a modem with a name such as: "Motorola USB Modem"?
  3. Do you have MSU or PST running in the background?

If you answer no to question number 1, you need to install the drivers before doing anything else. If you answer no to question number 2, make sure that you have a good connection (ie. the cable is properly connected). Try to disconnect the phone, power cycle it, and reconnect it. If still no connection, you should uninstall the drivers completely and reinstall a fresh set of drivers from: motodev . You will have to sign up for free as a developer in order to download this latest set of drivers. If you answer no to question number 3, then make sure that you have one of those applications running in the background FIRST and leave it open while you work in p2k commander or p2k seem.

IF you can answer yes to all of those, you might want to try doing things in a different order. I have seen issues where phones have difficulty connecting when doing things in the order listed in the guides section. Actually, my phone is one that had these issues. To try to correct things, do the following:

if you already have drivers installed, skip to step 4

  1. if there are currently no drivers installed on the machine, go ahead and connect the phone to the PC FIRST!
  2. Download and install the drivers listed above from the motodev site - they will automatically install during the process, since the phone will be detected during the process.
  3. when the process finishes, disconnect the phone from the computer
  4. start up PST or MSU - FIRST
  5. THEN connect the phone to the PC and you should immediately hear the phone getting recognized by the application
  6. the phone is ready when you hear three hardware detected tones when using PST or if you are using MSU, it is ready when you see the ESN listed in the window.
  7. start your p2k commander or p2k seem and you should now be fully connected.

Why wont my V3 from AT&T show up in BitPim?

Okay I have the simple v3 not v3i or abcdefg none of that. Well im pretty sure, cuz i have at&t. But for some reason it wont show up as connected on bitpim. The filesystem shows nothing.I am new to this but I know when i hook it up, it says Motorola USB Modem #5 as one of the ports, and Im assuming its that one because when I plug in my razr thats the port that switches from inoperable to available. But all I want to freakin do is change the lcd cover lol if this program doesn't work for my phone is there another program or another way?Or maybe my phone model is different...Im not exactly sure which v3 it is all I kno is on the back of the inside of the phone it says v3.Some Help would be much appreciated all you experienced ppl out there thanks very very much!

BitPim is designed for CDMA phones... not for your GSM phone from AT&T. That said... I doubt that it will work for you. You should try QPST or PST instead. Both of those applications are available in the software section of this website.

Why wont P2K programs connect to my phone?

Make sure that you have the USB device drivers installed, they do not come with Windows XP. For more reference, refer to the Start Here guide.

Next, always remember that in order for you to be able to use P2K programs, that first a P2K connection must be made between your phone and your computer. To create the P2K connection, you need to start MSU - Motorola Software Update ***OR*** start Phone Programmer which is provided in the PST suite of programs (commonly referred to simply as PST).

So first start *1* of those programs, and let it get connected to your phone (PST wont show any sign of connection, but just give it a second). Sometimes a series of USB chimes is heard while the P2K connection is made. MSU will report that a connection has been made. Once the P2K connection has been created via one of these programs, you can then go ahead and start P2K Seem Edit or P2K Commander and use them accordingly.
