After going through arduous process of figuring out how to get BitPim running on Mandriva so that I can get back to somewhat hacking my phone, I was confronted by the good old brew protection message on the /motorola/shared/audio folder. So I went to use their little add ringtone feature which I know from previous uses of BitPim under different operating systems does work for my phone. So I went ahead and imported my song, let the stupid converter convert an Mp3 into an mp3 (retarded i know) then i went to press the button to play the clip and it completely froze up on me.

After downloading and installing the test version of BitPim for Linux RPM distros, I was completely upset that it did not work "out of the box". I felt like I had made a huge error in ditching Windows in favor of Mandriva Linux. I did some searching around Mandriva Forums for an answer to my questions and found that another user previous to myself had the same exact issue (albeit with an older version of Mandriva). What it turned out to be was that BitPim was developed using an older version of the expat library than what came with the distro.

Every year on the last friday in July, we celebrate SysAdmin Day. I would like to express my gratitude for our resident system administrator (whether he thinks he is or not).
